Cale Makar Gets mad At Reporter When Compared To Bobby Orr

Cale Makar is making a strong case for a spot among the league's top 5 players, sparking comparisons from fans and experts alike.

The emerging star from Calgary is drawing comparisons to none other than the legendary Bobby Orr, widely regarded as one of the greatest defensemen of all time. Despite being just 24 years old, Makar boasts an impressive resume, including a Stanley Cup ring, a Calder Trophy, a Conn Smythe Trophy, and the James-Norris Trophy. All this accomplishment has been achieved in a span of 238 games, amassing an impressive 246 points.

Bobby Orr, during his initial four seasons in the NHL, managed 306 points, with a remarkable 120 points in his fourth year. It's easy to see why the parallels are being made, though Cale Makar doesn't seem to fully embrace this comparison.

In a recent interview with ESPN, Makar expressed his thoughts on the matter:

"I find these comparisons to be quite absurd. Being likened to a figure of that magnitude is beyond belief," he shared with ESPN. "From my standpoint, it's difficult to comprehend. I'm only 24, and Bobby Orr's accomplishments are virtually insurmountable. I'm nowhere close to that level. While the comparison holds some truth, it's essential to stay grounded."

Acknowledging the honor of being linked to such an iconic athlete, Makar remained humble: "However, let's not forget, I haven't achieved anything substantial yet. I'm still incredibly young." - Cale Makar

Taking a glance at the trophies, Makar's perspective seems valid, as Orr secured five Norris Trophies between the ages of 22 and 26, coupled with an astounding six consecutive seasons with 100 points or more.

It's essential to recognize that the landscape of the game has evolved since the "Bobby Orr era," characterized by higher-scoring matches and a different talent pool compared to today's NHL.

During the preceding summer, Makar achieved a significant milestone by gracing the cover of EA Sports' NHL 24 video game. This accomplishment holds immense value for young hockey players, and Makar's talent and dedication warranted this recognition.
