NHL free agency can be a tricky landscape, offering some players choices while others struggle to find a place. Normally, once a contract is inked, it's a done deal.

But today, a peculiar situation emerged for a veteran backup goalie. The New Jersey Devils announced the signing of Keith Kinkaid to a one-year, two-way contract, with him earning $750K in the NHL and $350K in the AHL.

However, there's a twist. Earlier this summer, Kinkaid signed a one-year deal with the unaffiliated Chicago Wolves of the AHL, leaving questions about how this situation will play out.

The Wolves have opted not to have an NHL affiliate this season, charting their own course. Stay tuned for more details on Kinkaid's deal as the day unfolds.
