Recent reports have been that the NHL was gauging the market for potential expansion/re-location cities for the future.
With the Board of Governors meetings wrapping up in Florida, Gary Bettman met with media and discussed the topic.
According to TSN's Chris Johnston, Bettman stated that the league has received expansion interest, naming at least three cities. As per Johnston:
Gary Bettman says the NHL has received expansion interest: ‘'Places like Atlanta, like Houston, like Quebec City.''
Adds: ‘'But we're not in an expansion mode right now and it's not really something, at least right now, that's anywhere close to front-burner for us.''
At this point, 32 teams in the league seems like the perfect amount. The best idea for the NHL would be re-location, depending on current teams' situations.
