Vancouver Giants (WHL) make history at prospect draft

The Vancouver Giants of the Western Hockey League (WHL) have broken a barrier with a recent draft pick.

With the 268th overall pick, in the 13th round, the Vancouver Giants have selected defender Chloe Primerano (born 2007) out of North Vancouver, British Columbia, in the 2022 Prospects Draft. In 30 games last season with the Burnaby Winter Club's U15 Program, Primarano notched two goals and 17 assists for 19 points. She added two assists in three playoff games as well.

Chloe becomes the first-ever female to be selected in a WHL Bantam Draft in league history.




FUN FACTS:

- Shannon Szabados made history when she became the first female to appear in a WHL regular-season game. She played for the Tri-City Americans on September 22nd, 2002.
-Three females have appeared in games in the Quebec Major Junior League (QMJHL). In March, 2022 goaltender Eve Gascon started a game for the Gatineau Olympiques. Before that, in 1999-2001, goaltender Charline Labonte appeared in 28 games for Acadie-Bathurst. Manon Rheaume suited up for Trois-Rivieres during the 1991-1992 season.
-In 2021, goaltender Taya Currie became the first female drafted to the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) when she was selected by the Sarnia Sting in the 14th round (267th overall).
