After an impressive 16-season journey in the National Hockey League, all with the Boston Bruins, 37-year-old David Krejci is ready for some well-deserved relaxation.

Speaking from his South Carolina home during a virtual press conference, Krejci expressed his eagerness for downtime.

"I don't want to do anything right now, to be honest," he admitted, a hint of a smirk on his face.

As he steps away from playing, Krejci acknowledged potential coaching or scouting roles but emphasized his focus on family time and recuperation.

"My body's not ready to play the whole season, especially at the speed and level the NHL is," he explained.

The wear and tear, especially from last year, led him to the realization that his return to the NHL would likely not yield the same results.

Krejci, who played his 1,000th career game and ranks fifth in club history for games played, embraces his decision despite the challenges he faced. The end of last season marked the inception of his retirement contemplation as injuries took a toll.

He aims to reassess his options, considering a possible return for the 2024 World Championships.

"If I decide to keep going, it will be definitely after New Year's. But we'll see what happens," he shared.

In the interim, Krejci looks forward to cherished moments with his wife, Naomi, and children, Elina and Everett. Golf and tennis will keep his competitive spirit alive, offering a balanced respite.

As Krejci's chapter in the NHL comes to a close, he expresses his trust in the young players, like Brad Marchand and David Pastrnak, to carry forward the Bruins' legacy. The road ahead might be uncertain, but Krejci's faith in his former teammates shines bright.

Amidst the sentiment of departure, Krejci's hockey legacy is sealed with fond memories, camaraderie, and one cherished championship. As he steps back from the spotlight, the indelible mark he's left on the Boston Bruins and the game itself is unquestionable.
