In a deviation from the usual course, Jim Montgomery made an unconventional personnel move during the Bruins' third consecutive loss on Monday night.

Boston's head coach decided to replace starting goaltender Jeremy Swayman after the Blue Jackets secured a 2-0 lead, a little less than six minutes into the second period in Columbus. This marked the first instance this season that the Bruins switched goalies in the middle of a game.

After Boston's 5-2 loss, Montgomery addressed the media, revealing that Swayman had asked him about the decision. However, the coach postponed providing an answer, stating they would discuss it on Tuesday.

Although Montgomery didn't immediately share insights with Swayman, he explained the move to reporters after the third consecutive game allowing five-plus goals. The switch aimed to
"slow the game down"
and send a message that the team needed to
"pick it up."

Boston looks to break out of its ongoing slump on home ice Thursday night, with NESN's full coverage of the Bruins' matchup against the San Jose Sharks starting at 6 p.m. ET.
