Marchands Dirty Play Sends Leafs Defenceman Awkwardly Into The Boards
In two recent matchups, the Toronto Maple Leafs found themselves short on defensemen due to injuries to Jake McCabe and Timothy Liljegren (in separate games), leaving them with only 5 defensemen.
Unfortunately, this scenario could repeat itself, marking the third time in just over a week.During Thursday's game against the Boston Bruins, with less than a minute left in the first period, Liljegren engaged in a puck race with Brad Marchand.
Regrettably, Marchand got his stick between Liljegren's legs, causing him to crash into the end boards feet-first.
Liljegren remained on the ice briefly, struggling to stand. Surprisingly, the officials chose not to penalize Marchand, despite the clear foul.
The officiating team for the game was Francois St. Laurent and Wes McCauley.
Liljegren managed to skate off the ice under his own power, but trainers assisted him down the tunnel. This news is concerning for the Leafs, who are already missing a top-4 defenseman in Jake McCabe.
They may now have to rely more on John Klingberg than initially planned.
