The Boston Bruins have brought in John McLean as their new assistant coach in a recent series of team hirings.

This John McLean, hailing from Wakefield, MA, isn't the former New Jersey Devils player and head coach. Instead, he has a background in coaching high school hockey, including stints at Malden Catholic and Austin Prep.

Notably, McLean worked as a Skills and Skating Consultant with the Boston Bruins during the 2022-23 season. He co-founded Dynamic Skating in 2010 alongside skating consultant Tom Ford and former Bruins Skills and Skating Coach Kim Brandvold.

McLean steps into the role previously held by John Gruden, who left to become the head coach of the Toronto Marlies, the AHL affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

In his new role, McLean will provide a perspective from above for head coach Jim Montgomery and assistants Chris Kelly and Joe Sacco on the bench.
