One thing was clear for the Boston Bruins heading into the season, a lot of players needed to step up if they wanted to once again be competitive.
Included in that, were some players that the Boston Bruins think of as leaders.
Through three games so far this season, that has been the case for the Boston Bruins, and they are a winning team because of it.
Boston is heading on a three-game West Coast road trip, and currently sit 3-1-0. This year, Sturm is going to be relying on three players, and all three of them have been listed as a top 100 player in the NHL this season.
Three players listed as top 100 players in the NHL
This year, the Bruins have a clear top three players on their roster, and recently ESPN's panel decided to throw together a top 100 players in the NHL, and three of them are Boston Bruins players.
Of course David Pastrnak and Charlie McAvoy are no surprises, but the last one was.
Pastrnak was ranked 11th, McAvoy was ranked 58th, and goaltender Jeremy Swayman ended up making the cut being ranked 95th.
Swayman ended up falling down quite a bit after the year he had last year, dropping 48 spots, from 47th last year to 95th this year.
Pastrnak has been a leader so far for the Boston Bruins, with Marco Sturm even calling him the Bruins "leader" as he does everything.
With Pastrnak making a «save» as the de facto goalie on an empty net attempt by Tampa followed by laying a huge hit on Kucherov, Sturm was asked what that does for a team to see a scorer making those plays:

So far, Swayman has been really good for the Boston Bruins, and they are hopeful he can continue to keep this pace up, and help bring the team back to contention.
