Recently, the Boston Bruins made one big change involving defenseman Charlie McAvoy, and it's been paying off big time for the Bruins.

To begin the season, the Bruins had Charlie McAvoy and Mason Lohrei paired together, but it clearly wasn't working.
Sturm decided to keep that pairing together for a while, but it was clearly a mistake, as they were horrible while the Bruins were on their six-game losing streak.
Right before the Bruins ended their six-game losing streak, Sturm decided to discipline Lohrei, and it's been paying off for them.
Lohrei was removed from the lineup because Sturm wasn't happy with his performance in the lineup.
Here is what he had to say:
"He should be pissed. He should be very pissed. He works very hard in practice. He's ready, but he has to wait for his opportunity. I think that's the goal, having him out and being a little bit different when he comes back. Watching from upstairs, watching other players what they do well, what they do wrong, it's a learning process for him right now."
Since removing Lohrei from the lineup, the Bruins have made one big change with Charlie McAvoy, and it's been paying off.

Bruins pair McAvoy and Zadorov together

Boston is currently on a three-game winning streak with Lohrei out of the lineup, and in his play, Nikita Zadorov has been paired with McAvoy on the top line, and it's been paying off.
In 72:34 of ice time together, Zadorov and McAvoy have only been on the ice for one goal against during 5-on-5.
A top D pairing of Charlie McAvoy and Nikita Zadorov has only been on the ice for one goal against over 72:34 of 5-on-5 reps together.
This is a big change from when Lohrei and McAvoy were paired together.
