Boston closed out Wednesday night with a 6-2 road win over Edmonton, snapping a brutal six-game losing streak. With it, the Bruins sit two points out of a playoff spot and finally look like they can breathe again.
Pastrnak did the heavy lifting, scoring two goals and adding an assist in a game where Boston scored twice in every period. He was named the second star, and his postgame message hit even harder than the points.
After everything this group has eaten over the last month, Pastrnak still sees something worth protecting. He called the room «special» and made it sound like the pain might actually matter later.
David Pastrnak sees a special Bruins group
«We have an amazing group of guys in the room,» Pastrnak said on Wednesday, as seen on NESN's postgame coverage. «It's only been half a season, but we've been through so much. We're there for each other every night, no matter if we are losing or winning.
«That's all you can ask. You don't take it for granted. You don't get special groups every year. We just have to build and become even tighter.»
«That's all you can ask. You don't take it for granted. You don't get special groups every year. We just have to build and become even tighter.»
That kind of quote only lands if the effort matches it, and Wednesday finally did. Boston looked connected, stayed on top of loose pucks, and played like a team tired of hearing itself talk.
Jeremy Swayman echoed the same idea from the crease, focusing on confidence and consistency.
«I think we can take a lot out of this game and build a lot of confidence,» Swayman said. «We know what we can do in this league. And consistency is everything, I think we can take this and move forward and really build some momentum.»
The next test comes fast, because momentum is fragile in this league. The Bruins are 21-18-2, still in the mix, and now they have to prove Wednesday wasn't just a one-night reset.
Boston returns to the ice Saturday on the road against the Vancouver Canucks. If they show the same detail and the same edge, this win becomes the first step, not the end of the story.
