The Boston Bruins had an unbearably saddening and unfortunate 2024/25 NHL season, and the organization has now been hit with more terrible news following this disastrous year.

The Bruins underwent a very unexpected season, but not for any reason the franchise should be proud of.
Not only did the team trade off their fan-favourited 16-year veteran Brad Marchand this past trade deadline, the roster endured several injuries that left many absent from the lineup, and the organization gradually made their way to the NHL basement to finish off this hectic year.
Although the 2024/25 NHL season was definitely a memorable one, it was not a good one.
Now, new devastating news has hit this Original Six team on Monday, May 5, as the team yet again endured an unlucky run.

The Boston Bruins have been hit with more terrible news following disastrous 2024/25 season

Despite the Boston Bruins dropping to the NHL basement (fifth-worst record in the league) as they were nearing the end of the NHL regular season, the team concluded this disastrous year with receiving just the seventh overall pick for NHL draft which was confirmed during the NHL Draft Lottery on Monday, May 5.
This is very unfortunate news for the franchise as they are in desperate need of new stars in order to become bigger contenders for the NHL 2025/26 season, if they are hoping to tread their way into postseason contention.
Although it is uncertain of what the organization will do with their pick, the Boston Bruins general manager, Don Sweeney, and the front office office are in dire need to zero-in on who they think will be best for the organization.
AndDon Sweeney revealed the approach the Bruins will take now that they will be selecting outside of the top five:
«I don't think we're going to be anchored positionally,» Sweeney told reporters, per NESN. «We're just trying to take the best player that has the chance to be the best player in the National Hockey League that he's capable of being. We always value hockey sense, you always value skating, you always value whether or not how competitive a player is, and you try to take the best player you possibly can. We're just in a position now where we're drafting in an area that we haven't been for some time and we expect to add an impact player.»

Despite the unfortunate circumstances the organization is in, now that it is confirmed that Boston will be acquiring the 7th overall pick, it seems as though the team's GM is confident that they will be able to sign an impactful player.
