The score was ugly, but Hampus Lindholm believes the Bruins showed more than the final line suggested Sunday in Minnesota.
Boston closed out its three-game road trip against the Minnesota Wild and fell behind early, digging a hole that proved too deep to climb out of.
The Bruins trailed 3-0 after two periods and were down 5-0 midway through the third, eventually skating away with a 6-2 loss that never truly settled.
Despite the lopsided result, Lindholm did not believe the performance was as one-sided as the scoreboard made it appear.
«It is hard in this league when you get behind in the first in a lot of games,» Lindholm said Sunday on NESN's postgame coverage. «I still think 5 on 5, we did a lot of good stuff.»
That even strength comment matters. The Bruins struggled in key moments, but they were not consistently overwhelmed when the game settled into structure.
Boston generated looks, competed in puck battles, and had stretches where they controlled play, but mistakes compounded quickly once momentum swung.
Lindholm stressed the importance of balance in evaluating a loss like this, especially with the bigger picture in mind.
«I don't think we should get too high or too low here,» he said. «We've been doing some good stuff. Try to learn from games like this, get home and have some good wins there at TD Garden.»
Bruins road trip success despite sour ending
From a fan perspective, this is one of those games that tests patience more than belief.
The loss stings, but context matters. Boston still finished the road trip 2 1 0, a solid result through difficult buildings and travel.
That stretch helped push the Bruins to a 19 14 0 record, currently good enough to hold onto the final Wild Card spot.
The Minnesota loss also came with injury concerns and lineup disruption, factors that complicate clean execution on the road.
Now the focus shifts home. Boston returns to TD Garden on Tuesday to face the Utah Mammoth, opening a five-game homestand that runs into the Christmas break.
Those games offer a chance to reset, tighten details, and turn lessons into points.
Lindholm's message was simple but important. One bad night does not erase progress, especially when the body of work still trends forward.
The Bruins did not like how Sunday ended, but they did not lose sight of who they are.
That perspective may matter just as much as the result.
