Boston Bruins lose another key defenseman to injury: "He will not return"

The Bruins finally welcomed Charlie McAvoy back into the lineup on Thursday, but the relief didn't last long.
Less than a period into their game against the Winnipeg Jets, the Bruins were hit with yet another blue line setback as Jonathan Aspirot exited with an injury and did not return.
Aspirot, who has quietly carved out a dependable depth role since joining the big club, did not come out for the start of the second period.
#Bruins defenseman Jonathan Aspirot didn't come out for the start of the second period.
That immediately raised concern, especially given how thin Boston's defensive depth has been in recent weeks. Not long later, the Bruins confirmed the bad news in a team update: Aspirot suffered an upper body injury and would not return to the game.
The timing stings. The Bruins spent nearly a month without McAvoy, leaning heavily on Hampus Lindholm, Nikita Zadorov and rookie Mason Lohrei to handle elevated minutes.
With McAvoy finally stepping back into his usual workload, the hope was that Boston could stabilize its defensive rotation. Aspirot's sudden absence forces the staff to reshuffle pairings yet again.
Boston Bruins can't catch a break with injuries
Aspirot, 25, has shown steady improvement this season, averaging reliable third pairing minutes and contributing on the penalty kill.
His skating and competitiveness have made him a trusted option for Marco Sturm, especially in tight-checking games.
Losing him mid-game reduced Boston to five defensemen, pushing more responsibility onto Zadorov and Lindholm as the Bruins tried to manage the remaining minutes.
With the team already missing several depth defenders in Providence due to call ups and injuries, this setback may force Boston to explore additional AHL reinforcements or lineup adjustments before the road trip continues.
What was supposed to be a night of stability instead became another reminder of how fragile the Bruins' defensive depth remains. McAvoy's return is a massive boost, but Aspirot's injury ensures the team isn't out of the woods yet.
