Boston Bruins new head coach Joe Sacco issued first statement with the team
The Boston Bruins have hired Joe Sacco as the interim coach for the team after Jim Montgomery was fired yesterday.
Don Sweeney and Cam Neely had to make the tough decision to fire the Jack Adams award winner. Today marked a new day for the Bruins as Joe Sacco led practice.
He was quick to issue a statement on the next step for the team to take this season. It was a statement, that Bruins fans are going to love.
«It's being harder to play against,» Sacco said. «I want teams to know it's going to be hard to score goals against us. Our offense will come. There's enough players in here that are going to score goals. I think the focus has been too much on that. Let's focus on keeping the puck out of our net, being hard to play against and I'm very confident this group will score goals.»
He wants the Bruins to play at a high level, which we've seen some of this roster capable of in the past.
But the key point of the statement was to make the Bruins tough to play against, a return to the "Big, Bad Bruins" would generate the right kind of hype for the team this season if Sacco can come close to delivering that product for fans.
The team's goal differential has been dismal with a -21 differential and are in the bottom five in the NHL with goals scored.
Nikita Zadarov's undisciplined play, along with Hampus Lindholm being absent from the lineup hasn't helped the Bruins situation either.
We'll see if Sacco can deliver as he will be bench boss behind the Bruins when the Utah Hockey Club takes on the B's in TD Garden on Thursday.
GM Don Sweeney has placed his full faith in the newest hire:
«I believe Joe Sacco has the coaching experience to bring the players and the team back to focusing on the consistent effort the NHL requires to have success,» Bruins GM Don Sweeney said in a team release on Sunday. «We will continue to work to make the necessary adjustments to meet the standard and performance our supportive fans expect.»
What has Joe Sacco accomplishedbefore his arrival in Boston?
Sacco has assisted Boston's three previous bench bosses in Claude Julien, Bruce Cassidy and Montgomery, all of whom have won the Jack Adams Award in their Bruins tenures. Sacco also has four seasons of head coaching experience with the Colorado Avalanche (2009-13).
It is a harrowing sight to see now that the Bruins have fired three Jack Adams Award-winning coaches. While Sweeney and Neely pretend to have all hands on deck, while the status quo remains.
Maybe it isn't the coach's fault in this instance? Is it the players, or the front office?
