The Bruins quietly addressed their thinning blue line Tuesday by claiming defenseman Vladislav Kolyachonok off waivers from the Dallas Stars, a move aimed more at stability than splash.

At 24 years old, Kolyachonok is a left shot defenseman with NHL experience, having appeared in 85 games across parts of five seasons, including 11 games with Dallas this year.
In that limited role, he still managed to contribute offensively, recording one goal and two assists while averaging 12 minutes and 37 seconds per game.
Dallas' decision to waive him came down to numbers, not performance. With a crowded defensive group, the Stars attempted to send Kolyachonok to the AHL, opening the door for Boston to step in.
The Bruins did exactly that, scooping him up as injuries continue to test their depth on the back end.
Kolyachonok was originally drafted in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft by the Florida Panthers and has built a reputation as a smooth puck mover with solid underlying metrics.
While he has yet to secure a full-time NHL role, his ability to move the puck efficiently has consistently stood out in limited opportunities.

Vladislav Kolyachonok fits Bruins current need

The Bruins are already dealing with injuries to Jonathan Aspirot, Henri Jokiharju, Jordan Harris, and Michael Callahan, forcing constant shuffling and heavy minutes for those available.
Kolyachonok gives the coaching staff another option who can help with exits and puck distribution, especially if he proves capable of playing his weak side.
That versatility could become important quickly, particularly if Boston wants to reduce pressure on younger defensemen still adjusting to the NHL pace.
There is also an internal angle worth noting. A steady puck mover like Kolyachonok could push competition for minutes, especially with Mason Lohrei still working through defensive zone inconsistencies despite his offensive skill.
The Bruins are not unfamiliar with Kolyachonok either. He scored a highlight reel goal against Boston last season while playing for Utah, a moment that stuck with the scouting staff.
This is not a headline-grabbing acquisition, but it is the kind of depth move that can quietly matter over an 82-game season.
Boston did not fix everything Tuesday, but they gave themselves another option, and right now, options matter.
