Boston finally caught a break Friday morning. After days of uncertainty and mounting frustration, David Pastrnak stepped back onto the ice for the first time since being injured against the New York Islanders.

Pastrnak had not skated once since tweaking something late in that game, an absence that immediately raised concern inside the Bruins organization.
He missed multiple practices, sat out three straight games, and was ruled out of the Detroit trip entirely. Today, though, he appeared ahead of practice in full gear, skating on his own and easing back into movement. He did not join line rushes, but that was never the expectation for his first session back.
The important part was simple: Pastrnak was skating again. For a Bruins team desperate for offensive punch and reeling from injuries across the lineup, seeing No. 88 glide around the rink felt like the first genuinely positive update in days. His return to the ice signals progress, even if there is still work ahead before he rejoins Marco Sturm's lineup.

David Pastrnak's solo skate gives Boston Bruins long-awaited optimism

As a fan watching this, it was impossible not to feel some relief. Pastrnak has 11 goals already this season and remains the heartbeat of Boston's attack. Without him, the Bruins have produced chances inconsistently and leaned heavily on depth players to survive tough matchups. Getting him back, even gradually, completely changes their ceiling.
Sturm made it clear earlier in the week that Pastrnak needed to skate «a few times» before being considered for game action, and today he checked the first box.
If he responds well, the Bruins could ramp him up with controlled contact before considering a full practice return.
Here is the moment Bruins fans were waiting for.
Boston is still bruised and battling through a long injury list, but Pastrnak's return to the ice offers something the Bruins badly needed, some hope that their top scorer is inching closer to game shape again.
