Frederic Brunet keeps stacking signs that he deserves a serious look from the Bruins, and his development trajectory makes the case louder each month.

Brunet, a 2022 fifth-round pick, has grown from a long-term project into one of Boston's most intriguing young defensemen.
Last season with the Providence Bruins, he hit career highs across the board with five goals, 20 assists, and 25 points in 69 games.
That jump followed a quieter 2023-24 campaign where he produced two goals and 12 points in 48 games, showing just how dramatic his growth has been.
Now, Brunet is building on that momentum. His play this season in Providence has earned steady praise from coaches and scouts, who point to increased poise, sharper reads and a more assertive approach when moving pucks out of the zone. The Bruins wanted to see him add pace, physical engagement and consistency, and he has checked those boxes.
As the NHL club navigates injuries and fluctuating defensive depth, Brunet's name naturally rises in internal discussions.
His skating stride has improved, his breakout decisions have matured, and he now looks like a player who controls shifts instead of simply surviving them.

Frederic Brunet's growth gives Boston Bruins a compelling option

Fans see the upside too. Boston's blue line has leaned heavily on Hampus Lindholm, Mason Lohrei and Nikita Zadorov to carry major minutes, and adding a composed puck-moving option could ease some of that burden. Brunet's instincts fit the direction Marco Sturm wants - movement, efficient exits and fewer scrambling sequences under pressure.
With the Bruins committed to integrating more youth into their system, Brunet represents a development success story they cannot afford to overlook.
He is not a finished product, and the team will rightly avoid rushing him, but few prospects in the organization have trended upward as consistently.
If his strong Providence play continues, the question won't be whether he earns a call-up - it will be when. Brunet keeps proving he deserves the next step, and the Bruins may soon need what he brings.
