Bergeron praises Bruins fans following his retirement

After an illustrious 19 seasons with the Boston Bruins, Patrice Bergeron bid a touching farewell to the devoted fanbase. Speaking at TD Garden on Wednesday, the former captain expressed his profound appreciation for the unwavering support he received throughout his career.

«Thank you for everything, it's been an absolute honor,» Bergeron said. «When you get drafted, you never know where you're going to end up, what the journey's going to be like. It's obviously a dream as I said many times and I couldn't be more grateful and thankful for being here, arriving as an 18-year-old kid, young adult, not knowing too much, whether it's language or even the adult life really. And the city really took me under its wing and embraced me and it's been special.

«So, the fans and everyone, I'm thankful for the memories and everything you guys have brought to me and my family.»

The announcement of his retirement evoked heartfelt reactions from Bruins fans, team owner Jeremy Jacobs, president Cam Neely, general manager Don Sweeney, and countless teammates and NHL players. Bergeron's impact on the franchise was undeniable, making him an institution in Boston.

As he explained his decision to step away, Bergeron cited a lack of motivation this offseason and the desire to spend more time with his family. Despite an uncertain future, he finds solace in his choice to hang up his skates.

For two decades, Bruins fans have had the privilege of cheering for Bergeron, and there is no debate � he leaves a lasting legacy, and the team is undoubtedly better off for having had him in their ranks.
