The NHL season is well underway, and soon the 2026 Olympics will be here. Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy just sent every team a warning.
A lot of NHL players will be heading to Italy to compete for the 2026 Winter Olympics, and it's the first time since 2014 that NHL players will be able to compete in the Olympics.
During the 4 Nations Face-Off, Team USA fell short in winning gold, losing the game in overtime to Team Canada, but during the tournament, Team USA ended up defeating Canada for the first time in international play since the group-play stage during the 2010 Olympics.
Moving forward, Team USA has big expectations.
Recently,
McAvoy spoke with NHL.com's Bill Price and sent a warning to every team that will be appearing at the Olympics.
McAvoy and Team USA is going to win gold
«I don't think we're dancing around it, either,» McAvoy said, h/t NHL.com. «I think we're pretty comfortable talking about how it's our time. We have an expectation amongst our group here. All [the] guys that are here, everybody understands the message, which is we're going to win gold.»
McAvoy doesn't believe that they will just be contenders to win gold, but expects them to win the entire thing.
Team USA has not won a gold medal in ice hockey since 1980, and have only made it to the finals twice since then.
Once in 2002 where they lost to Canada, and the next time was in 2010, losing to Canada once again.
Now, there is some real hope that Team USA has a good chance to take home Olympic gold with a pretty stacked team.
Fans got a good taste of what they can expect during the Olympics at the 4 Nations Face-Off this year, and it just increased the hype around it.
