The Bruins were beaten soundly 6-to-2 by the Ottawa Senators last night, in a game that felt out of reach almost immediately. Boston struggled to match pace, energy, and execution from the opening faceoff.

Ottawa dictated play early and never let go. The Senators skated freely through the neutral zone, won races on loose pucks, and consistently arrived first to contested areas. Boston chased most of the night.
For a Bruins team trying to establish consistency, this loss landed hard. Defensive breakdowns piled up, goaltending was under siege, and offensive responses never materialized.
After the game, Sturm did not sugarcoat what he saw. His message centered on effort, urgency, and accountability, themes that have started to repeat too often lately.
Marco Sturm: «They came out flying. They came out skating. They had a lot of energy and they outworked us right from the opening faceoff. It was a very disappointing night»

Marco Sturm disappointed with the Boston Bruins' effort

Sturm's words felt overdue. Bruins supporters have watched similar starts derail games, and hearing the coach acknowledge it directly matters.
Sturm pointed out that Ottawa came out flying, skating, and working harder from the opening faceoff. That admission cuts deeper than systems talk because effort is nonnegotiable in Boston.
The Bruins struggled to establish forecheck pressure, lost battles along the walls, and allowed Ottawa to control the tempo far too easily.
The concern now is pattern, not one bad night. Boston has had multiple games recently where urgency lagged early, forcing them to play catch-up against confident opponents.
Sturm's frustration also reflects a coach searching for answers. Line tweaks and goalie decisions can only do so much when energy is missing across the lineup.
Veteran leadership will be tested in moments like this. The Bruins rely on experienced players to set standards, especially when the schedule tightens and fatigue creeps in.
