Don Sweeney has confirmed that Brad Marchand will be returning to the Boston Bruins for the 2024-25 season next year.
This will be the final year of his contract with the Boston Bruins but GM Don Sweeney doesn't have any plans on letting the captain leave the Boston Bruins.
Brad Marchand was signed to an 8 year contract in 2016-17 that had a value of $49 million. Now Brad Marchand will be entering the final year of his deal at the age of 36 and is prepared to have conversations with management about his future with the team.
Don Sweeney confirmed Brad Marchand will be a life long Boston Bruin during his end of year press conference.
«Yeah, we're going to get to Brad. He's learning patience as a captain as well,» Sweeney told reporters, per a Bruins transcript. «So, he has to learn there's some ducks in a row in terms of adding to our group and how he wants to add to that, and those guys that don't have contracts up ahead, and eventually he'll extend here. He'll be a lifelong Bruin, that's what we should do. But we'll check that box.»
Don Sweeney did also make it clear that he approached some other of the Bruins free agents and told them the direction the team was heading in, hinting they might not be back next year.
Bruins fans don't have to worry about Brad Marchand going anywhere as he also expressed he wants to play out the rest of his career with the Boston Bruins, and Don Sweeney confirmed that, that will happen.
