Don Sweeney places a top prospect on waivers: It's taken an unexpected turn

Prior to the Boston Bruins' 2025/26 NHL regular season, the organization's front office made some notable cuts.

25-year old, Georgii Merkulov, was among these highly skilled prospects that had been placed on waivers prior to the regular season.

He was then sent down to the Boston Bruins' American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate team, the Providence Bruins.

Despite many believing Merkulov to be an extremely intruging candidate to acquire off waivers, he surprisingly cleared them and made his way into Providence.

This was undoubtedly something that Providence must be extremely happy about, and this promising prospect is already off to a very strong start.

In just two games thus far into the 2025/26 season with Providence, this young talent has been able to record one goal, three assists, totalling at four points, with a plus-1 rating.

While Merkulov continues to prove his value, he will undoubtedly give himself the potential of receiving another shot at making the Boston Bruins NHL roster.

That being said, this young talent is going to now look to continue to make an impact with Providence, to ensure his likelihood of making Boston's roster is possible.
