Elliotte Friedman Just Reported A Failed Blockbuster Trade Involving Ex-Boston Bruins Captain Brad Marchand

After a disappointing 2024-25 season, Don Sweeney capped it off at the NHL trade deadline whenever he ended up trading captain Brad Marchand to the Florida Panthers.

Along with Marchand, some other big names got traded like Trent Frederic who went to the Oilers, Brandon Carlo to the Leafs, Charlie Coyle to the Avalanche, and Justin Brazeau to the Wild. These were the more notable trades that Sweeney made.

Now, NHL insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that Brad Marchand nearly went to a Western Conference team.

According to Elliotte Friedman, he stated that during the NHL trade deadline, the Los Angeles Kings took a real big run at Brad Marchand and tried to do what they could to acquire him.

Ultimately it came down to Marchand requesting to go the Florida:

It's unclear what the return would have been if the Bruins traded Marchand to the Los Angeles Kings, but it's clear that it would have been better than the return they got from the Panthers.

All the Bruins got back for Marchand in the trade was a conditional second-round pick, that will turn into a first-round pick if Marchand plays 50% of the games in the playoffs, and they make it to the Eastern Conference Finals.
