Former disliked Boston Bruins defenseman set to be traded after just signing with new team in the off-season

Grzelcyk signed with the
Pittsburgh Penguins for a year-long deal, with an AAV of $2.75 Million.
NEWS | The Washington Capitals have acquired forward
Lars Eller from the Pittsburgh Penguins for Washington's third-round pick in the 2027 NHL Draft and a fifth-round pick (originally from Chicago) in the 2025 NHL Draft.
Now everybody is fair game, and Dubas has said everyone aside from #87
Sidney Crosby is on the block.
Grzelcyk could be an interesting trade piece, as teams could roster him as a veteran presence in the lineup. Penguins have fallen out of any sort of hope for even a Wildcard spot.
We're nearly halfway through November and the team is 6-9-2 and 7th in the Metropolitan Division. It's easy to be worse than the
New York Islanders I suppose.
Either way, they're going tanking and building around Sid the Adult.
In 17 games this season, the 5-foot-10 defenseman has zero goals, seven assists, and a minus-8 rating.
Grzelcyk could add meaningful depth to his next team's blueline:
Is smart, skilled and a good skater; he has everything but size (5'9") and durability. Is extremely mobile, can skate the puck out of trouble or make a good breakout pass. The puck tends to spend a lot of time in the opponent's zone when he is on the ice. Will not put up huge offensive numbers but can provide depth scoring from the back end.
But for now, we're in a wait-and-see period, as Kyle Dubas begins the difficult part of a rebuild.
Matt Grzelcyk will likely never see a Stanley Cup again, at least in Pittsburgh. If Dubas is generous he'll send him to a contender.
