A report Monday morning connected the Rangers to Tuch if the Buffalo Sabres decide to move him. The key wrinkle was Chris Johnston floating a sign-and-trade as the smarter path than waiting for July 1.

That should make Bruins fans sit up, because Boston has been tied to Tuch more than once. NESN reported Boston interest earlier this season, and a separate Yahoo roundup also noted the Bruins were among teams linked to him.
On paper, you get why Boston keeps circling. Tuch is 29, a 2014 first-round pick, and he plays a heavy right-side game that travels in the spring.
The contract detail is what makes the «steal» fear feel real. Tuch carries a $4.75 million cap hit, and his deal expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, so a sign-and-trade could lock in the money early.

Alex Tuch fits New York Rangers plan

As a Bruins fan, I hate this, because it feels like a rival reading the same shopping list.
Tuch is still producing, too, with 12 goals and 32 points in 39 games this season. Those numbers line up across ESPN and PuckPedia, and they're strong enough to keep demand high.
If New York can get permission to extend him before the trade is filed, that's a huge advantage over everyone waiting for the open market. It also fits a Rangers team that never seems shy about bold, win-now swings.
For Boston, missing out would sting, especially after the «wait for a deeper summer» vibe that's hung over recent roster talk. The Bruins can pivot, but the best power wingers do not stay available for long.
Bruins fans might be watching a rival land the exact type of winger Boston keeps needing.
