Sad news surfaced Saturday as the Rangers announced the passing of Bobby Rousseau, an Original Six era forward whose career bridged dynasties and generations.

Rousseau passed away at 85 years old, closing the chapter on a career that touched three NHL organizations and two of hockey's most iconic franchises.
While his tenure with the Rangers came later in his playing days, Rousseau's place in league history was already secure by the time he arrived in New York.
He began his NHL career with the Montreal Canadiens in 1960 and quickly became a fixture during one of the most dominant runs the league has ever seen.
Rousseau won four Stanley Cup championships with Montreal in 1965, 1966, 1968, and 1969, skating alongside legends during the franchise's golden era.
Known for his intelligence and reliability, Rousseau was a two way winger who could contribute offensively while handling difficult defensive minutes without hesitation.
During his prime seasons in Montreal, he posted multiple 20 goal campaigns and earned a reputation as a steady playoff performer when games tightened.

Bobby Rousseau remembered by New York Rangers

The Rangers acquired Rousseau ahead of the 1971-72 season, adding veteran credibility to a roster navigating the evolving post-expansion NHL landscape.
That same season, Rousseau helped New York reach the Stanley Cup Final, providing leadership and composure during a deep playoff run.
He spent four seasons with the Rangers from 1971-72 through 1974-75, serving as a stabilizing presence before retiring from the league.
Older Rangers fans remember Rousseau as a calming professional who showed younger players how to survive the grind of an NHL season.
He was also a key part of a dangerous power play unit alongside Jean Ratelle, Rod Gilbert, Vic Hadfield, and Brad Park, a group that defined an era of Rangers hockey.
The organization acknowledged his passing Saturday with a formal statement honoring both his on ice impact and his character.
"The Rangers organization mourns the loss of Bobby Rousseau. A dynamic forward who electrified fans with his offensive prowess, particularly on the power play, he played a key role in helping the Blueshirts advance to the Stanley Cup Final in 1971-72. We are thinking of Bobby's loved ones, friends, and teammates during this difficult time."

Rousseau's career reflected a time when players moved from championship cores into mentorship roles, carrying winning habits across franchises.
His four Stanley Cups with Montreal define his legacy, but his years in New York added a meaningful and respected chapter.
The Rangers community remembers Bobby Rousseau not only for what he won, but for how he carried himself throughout a distinguished NHL career.
