Rumor: Boston Bruins defenseman traded following recent signing by the organization

The Boston Bruins extended Jonathan Aspirot, and some eyes immediately swung toward Andrew Peeke.

In the team release, Don Sweeney said Boston at an $887,500 cap hit.

Aspirot is 26, and the deal is earned, not gifted. He debuted Oct. 28 and has two goals and one assist in 25 games, plus a team-best plus-15, which Reuters also noted.

For a club that lives on structure, that plus-15 jumps off the page. When your depth defender is on the right side of results that often, coaches start giving him real minutes.

Fans have been craving a cheap defender who keeps it simple, and Aspirot has started to look like that solution.

That's why Dominic Tiano's reaction landed with a thud when he wrote, It's harsh, but you can see the logic.

Peeke has size and experience, yet his results have been uneven this year. He has nine points in 44 games, and ESPN has him at minus-13, while his $2.75 million cap hit runs through 2025-26.

The Bruins didn't hide their excitement either, with the team account blasting «ASPI EXTENDED 🖊️» like it was a lineup card. A move like that can change internal math fast.

Peeke was drafted 34th overall by Columbus in 2016 and he's 27 now, so the player is what he is. If Boston thinks Aspirot can handle third-pair work and penalty-kill reps, Peeke becomes the movable contract.

No trade is guaranteed, and Boston can still keep both, especially if injuries hit again. But this extension created an option, and options are what good teams hoard before the deadline.
