The real reason why Don Sweeney's free agency frenzy failed and it's concerning for the Bruins
After having a terrible 2024-25 season, the Boston Bruins were expected to be a busy team in the off-season.
To begin free agency, it seems like Don Sweeney failed the Boston Bruins with the signings that he ended up making.
But ultimately it's not his fault.
Why the Boston Bruins missed out on big named free agents
The Boston Bruins did not land any big named free agents during, but it's not really his fault, and a report from a Bruins podcaster just confirmed it.
Last off-season, the Boston Bruins ended up signing some of the bigger named free agents in Nikita Zadorv, and Elias Lindholm.
The big reason for the Bruins landing them was due to them wanting to come and play for the Boston Bruins.
Don Sweeney missed out on big named free agents this off-season, but that's not his fault. Instead it's because they ultimately did not want to go and play in Boston:
for anyone crying that the Bs didn't go out and land Ehlers, Boeser or any other legit top 6 scoring talent in FA (there wasn't any) should remember players have to want to sign with your club. Lindholm & Zadorov wanted to be here so they were signed.
Sweeney made a bunch of signings, and one trade during free agency, but still left a gaping whole in the top-six.
The Bruins are still going to need to acquire some more secondary scoring to be able to call this off-season a success and step in the right direction.
It will be interesting to see if the Bruins do end up making some more trades during the off-season to acquire a top-six winger or not.
