The Boston Bruins face a daunting task of filling the massive void left by the retirement of their esteemed captain, Patrice Bergeron.

Recent trade rumors have linked them to the Calgary Flames, with the Bruins eyeing Elias Lindholm as a potential candidate to help plug the gap. However, according to a source interviewed by Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now, the Flames' asking price for Lindholm is substantial.

"If the Bruins want Lindholm, likely [Jake] DeBrusk," the source shared with Murphy. "They don't want any picks, and the Bruins have none. They want a scoring winger that can make up for [Tyler] Toffoli being traded. There's probably more that would be in that trade, but DeBrusk would be the target, I think."

With the high demands set by the Flames, the Bruins might face challenges in making this deal happen. As a result, they could turn their attention to current roster players, hoping they can step up to fill the void. Players like Pavel Zacha or Charlie Coyle could be options to center the top line if the Bruins fail to secure a new No. 1 center before the 2023-24 season.

Given the Flames' stance on Lindholm, it's understandable why the Bruins might explore alternative strategies to bolster their front lines. The search for a successor to Bergeron's leadership and skill remains a top priority for the team as they prepare for the upcoming season.
