Former Bruin And Connor Bedard Share A Funny Story
In a pre-game moment of camaraderie and mentorship, Nick Foligno, known for his leadership both on and off the ice, shared a lighthearted laugh with rookie sensation Connor Bedard just before the Blackhawks faced off against the Bruins at TD Garden on Wednesday night.
It was a moment captured by broadcast cameras, showcasing Foligno walking into the building with Bedard. However, the subject of their laughter had nothing to do with the impending game against the Bruins. Instead, it revolved around a seemingly trivial but memorable experience."We were laughing about how the bus backs up into the ramp," Foligno recounted to NESN.com after the game. "He was freaking out over that. I'm like, ‘Man, the guy that drove today was pretty slow. There's one guy that just flies up the ramp.'"
Bedard, new to the NHL, had never encountered such a bus maneuver before, and it was a source of fascination for the young player. Foligno reflected on this with an appreciative smile, acknowledging the unique perspective that young talents like Bedard bring to the league.
"It's neat to see. That's the fun part of the young guys. They see the NHL through different lenses," Foligno explained. "We're so used to it, and he's like, ‘What the hell was that?' So, it's really fun."
After the light-hearted moment, Foligno resumed his role as a mentor to the 18-year-old Bedard, offering words of encouragement and guidance.
"I just said ‘This is a great place to play,' and he showed it tonight," Foligno continued. "He was up to the task. He played outstanding and I'm thrilled for him because I think, you can see it he's just learning and getting better every day. And that's the scary part. He has room to grow, and watch out when he does."
Bedard's journey in the NHL took a significant step that night, marked by his first NHL goal in the Blackhawks' 3-1 game against the Bruins in Boston. Foligno, a supportive teammate and leader, couldn't hide his joy for the young player's achievement.
«Heck of a goal by him,» Foligno conveyed to reporters post-game. «He's starting (to) show what he can really do. I'm happy for him. It's a nice one to get out of the way early."
