First, actor Ryan Reynolds showed interest in purchasing the Ottawa Senators, with legendary rapper Snoop Dogg recently entering the sweepstakes. Now, another celebrity has reportedly joined the bid.

Everybody Loves the Weeknd

Since the passing of previous owner Eugene Melnyk in March of 2022, his daughters have been running the club's operations while they search for new ownership.
Over the past year, multiple well-known names - as stated above - have shown serious interest in buying the organization, and according to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, they keep piling up:
''Sources told Postmedia Saturday Canadian music superstar, The Weeknd, has agreed to be a partner in the bid by Toronto billionaires Jeffrey and Michael Kimel of the Harlo Capital Group to purchase the Senators.''

Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, or The Weeknd as he's professionally known, grew up in Toronto to two Ethiopian immigrants. The four-time Grammy Award-winning recording artist also loves hockey and has ties to Ottawa.
As per Garrioch, Michael Kimel - one of The Weeknd's partners - also has previous ties to the NHL:
''The Kimels were part owners of the Pittsburgh Penguins until they sold to the Fenway Sports Group in 2021. They have a diverse portfolio of investments that include real estate, wealth management and the entertainment industry.

The deadline for bidding is reportedly set for May 15th, and at this point, anybody's guess who will be the next owner of the Ottawa Senators and whether it will be one of these ''A-List'' celebrities.
