In a surprising twist of events, an announcement has been made confirming that Kyle Dubas will not resume his role as the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Following the team's disappointing streak of seven consecutive playoff failures during the Dubas/Auston Matthews/Mitch Marner era, the Leafs have decided to seek a new general manager for their future endeavors.

Dubas had alluded to the possibility of such a decision, acknowledging the physical and emotional toll that the past several years had taken on him and his family. He expressed his intention to consult with them before reaching a final decision regarding his future. Moreover, he made it clear that he would not actively pursue employment with another team in the immediate future if he were to part ways with the Leafs.

To address this stunning development, team president Brendan Shanahan will conduct a press conference at 3:00 pm ET. Meanwhile, he issued a statement expressing the following:

"Kyle has fostered a strong and positive culture within our dressing room and staff, consistently striving to elevate our team season after season. We extend our heartfelt wishes to Kyle and his family as they embark on their future endeavors, and we sincerely thank him for his invaluable contributions."

This development leaves the team grappling with a significant question: the future of Auston Matthews. Being the recipient of the 2022 Hart Trophy, Matthews shared a close relationship with Dubas. Additionally, with Matthews becoming eligible for a contract extension on July 1st, the outcome of that negotiation becomes a pivotal topic of discussion as the team moves forward.
