During Wednesday's game between the New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning at Madison Square Garden, a frightening incident occurred in the second period.
Lightning defenseman Mikhail Sergachev collided with Rangers forward Alexis Lafreniere along the boards, resulting in what appeared to be a significant injury to Sergachev's left ankle.
Dan Rosen reported the alarming scene, stating,
"Mikhail Sergachev is down along the wall and holding his left knee... They're bringing out a stretcher for him."
Sergachev, making his return to the Lightning's lineup after a absence since mid-December, remained on the ice for an extended period, visibly distressed.
The severity of Sergachev's injury prompted medical attention, with the player eventually being stretchered off the ice. Updates on his condition are expected from the Tampa Bay Lightning following further examination after the game or tomorrow.
