The hockey community received somber news on Monday night as the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) mourned the passing of former player Paul Giallonardo.
Giallonardo, who was a member of the Windsor Spitfires, lost his battle with cancer at the age of 39.Expressing their condolences, the OHL shared on their website:
"The Ontario Hockey League is mourning the loss of an alumnus gone too soon. Former Windsor Spitfires player Paul Giallonardo passed away on Sunday night after a battle with cancer. He was just 39 years old."
Giallonardo's hockey journey spanned four seasons in the OHL, exclusively with the Windsor Spitfires from 2001 to 2005.
Post-OHL, he continued his hockey pursuits at St. Thomas University for an additional three seasons. Giallonardo concluded his playing career during the 2008-09 season, showcasing his skills overseas in Italy for Alleghe in 46 games before retiring.
