One of the biggest storylines expected to drag on throughout the season was the the fact that defenseman Torey Krug is set to become an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Well, it seems that general manager Don Sweeney is trying to put an end to that.
After Krug revealed to reporters during training camp that the Bruins haven't spoke to him about any sort of extension, Sweeney gave the media a great update on Tuesday.
The B's general manager confirmed to reporters that he's currently in discussion to sign both Krug and Charlie Coyle to contract extensions.
After not sounding too confident a couple of weeks ago, Krug is ecstatic negotiations have begun.
"It's exciting. Now that we're in the regular season I don't want to talk too much about it just out of respect for my teammates and the process," said Krug. "But it's obviously exciting when you're talking about where you could be for the future while taking care of the present obviously. That's the most important thing. But it's an exciting time and hopefully things work out." Absolutely great news!
