A former NHL defenseman has tragically passed away at the age of 52.
Tragic news strikes the hockey community as it was just announced that former Ottawa Senators and Dynamo Moscow defenseman Dmitri Filimonov has tragically passed away at the young age of 52.
Orginally drafted by the Winnipeg Jets in the 1991 draft, he would chose to continue to play for the Dynamo Moscow in Russia before being traded to the Ottawa Senators.
His NHL career was brief and short as he would only go on to play 30 games in the NHL for the Ottawa Senators having 1 goal and 4 assists in those games for 5 career points.
Filimonov would end up returning to Russia in 1997 before officially calling it a career in 2006.
It was announced that his funeral will be scheduled for Monday, our thoughts and prayers are with his friends and family as they navigate this tough time.
