Two weeks ago, longtime NHL defenseman PK Subban announced his retirement, and rumors immediately began to swirl that Subban had only wanted to play for two teams. According to the reports, he had his heart set on playing for the Montreal Canadiens or Toronto Maple Leafs.
But neither team came calling.
It wasn't just the Leafs and Canadiens who didn't come calling, at least according to the ''Cam & Strick Podcast'', as they revealed the real reason:
''Somebody would have signed him...if he could still play.''
It's clear from multiple reports that no NHL team felt Subban could help them for one reason or another. In a league where value contracts are the new norm, it's hard to believe that a former Norris Trophy winner couldn't get at least a professional tryout.
