Just the other day, former Boston Bruins forward Nick Foligno ended up stepping away from the Chicago Blackhawks due to a family matter, and now the same terrible news has struck defenseman Brandon Montour of the Seattle Kraken.

"Blackhawks captain Nick Foligno is taking a brief leave of absence as his daughter undergoes follow-up surgery related to her congenital heart disease. Nick, nor the Blackhawks, will have any further comment at this time."

Montour steps away from the Kraken

It was just announced that the Seattle Kraken are going to be without on of their top defenders for some time.
The Kraken announced on social media that Brandon Montour is taking a temporary leave of absence from the team due to a family matter.
After releasing this, they also announced that no further comments will be made, and for fans to respect the privacy of him and his family.
UPDATE

DEFENSEMAN BRANDON MONTOUR WILL BE TAKING A TEMPORARY LEAVE OF ABSENCE TO ATTEND TO A FAMILY MATTER.

NO FURTHER DETAILS WILL BE SHARED AT THIS TIME, AND THE TEAM REQUESTS THAT HIS FAMILY'S PRIVACY BE RESPECTED DURING THIS PERIOD.
Montour has been off to a strong start this season, leading the team in assists through their first four games.
He also leads them in ice time this season, averaging just under 23 minutes per game.
Seattle's defensive depth is now going to be put to the test, especially considering defenseman Ryker Evans has yet to play a game this season after suffering a upper-body injury.
There is a chance that the Kraken are going to call someone up from the AHL, especially if Montour is going to be absent for a period of time.
