The Boston Bruins Make A Major Signing

As training camps will be up and running soon, we should see an uptick in PTO signings as players want to get a shot elsewhere.
The Bruins once again, have signed another player on PTO, former Stanley Cup Champion and Chicago Blackhawk, Tyler Johnson.
Johnson was a part of the Tampa Bay Lightning trade, which sent Johnson, Boris Katchouk, and
Taylor Raddysh to Chicago, in return for
Brandon Hagel as a part of a salary dump.
He's had issues staying healthy during his time in Chicago, which didn't help him when he walked to free agency. In 2022-2023 he scored 32 points in 56 games and would follow it up in 2023-2024 with 31 points in 67 games.

Before arriving in Chicago, he spent nine seasons in Tampa Bay as a key role player with the Lightning. His secondary scoring led him to posting 431 points( 193 G, 238 A) in 738 games split between the Hawks and the Lightning.
His unfortunate track record has given him little leverage in finding takers for a new contract.
While Johnson has spent the last few years on Wing, he is capable of playing center and could fill-in for someone like
Matthew Poitras who missed 38 games last season.
If Poitras starts on the wing, or in the AHL Johnson would be a great stop-gap in that case.
The Bruins currently have $8.64 Million AAV in salary cap space, which most is expected to go to Jeremy Swayman.
They will need to sign the RFA goalie before getting an idea of how much space they have to sign Johnson.
In the end, Johnson will have to give Don Sweeney a justification for a contract by the time camp is up.
