The Boston Bruins won the Presidents Trophy, but the "Presidents Trophy curse" came back to bite them after losing in the first round. After the first-round exit, we may start to see the Bruins slowly crumble.
Tyler Bertuzzi may be on his way out, according to Frank Seravalli. Patrice Bergeron may have played his last game ever, and their top players are old and their contracts are running out.
Everything continues to get worse for Boston. There have been a lot of rumors surrounding goaltender Linus Ullmark. Ullmark is 29 years old and has a $5 million cap hit for the next two years. Ullmark had a .938 SV% and a 1.89 GAA with two shutouts, while also being the favorite for the Vezina Trophy.
Secondly, they're going into a rebuild. Guys like Bergeron, Marchand, Coyle, and more are all going to be gone soon. And if they trade Ullmark right now, they can get a ton of draft capital, because they don't have that either.
Lastly, cap space. Boston only have just under $5 million in cap, and they need to free some up if they have any ambitions to sign someone other than Swayman.
