Taylor Hall, a standout performer for the Bruins during their recent playoff run, was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday, a move driven by the need to create salary cap space.

Like other teams, the Bruins had hoped for a substantial increase in the cap for the upcoming season.

However, they ended the season with less than $4 million in cap space and numerous free agents to retain. The trade boosted the Bruins' cap by $6 million, bringing them to just over $10 million.

»We figured if the cap didn't go up, we were going to have some juggling to do which we unfortunately lose Taylor,» Bruins president Cam Neely told reporters in a team-provided video. «Great player for us. We really loved him as a Bruin. But that's just you know, we knew that was gonna happen. Unfortunately, the cap didn't go up like everybody was hoping for, but we kind of anticipated that.»
