Boston Bruins: Tyler Bertuzzi's agent speaks out on the possibility of a return
Tyler Bertuzzi signed a one-year deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs this past year, and unfortunately he and the Leafs were eliminated from the playoffs in the 1st round by the Bruins.
Bertuzzi and his agent have realized, the Maple Leafs may take some time to get to his needs, as the team has other needs that could use attention first.
«We've had productive talks,» Todd Reynolds, the agent for Bertuzzi, said on Tuesday. «But the player realizes that there are other areas for the team to address. We'll see where it goes.»
The 29 year old winger, has been a key performer down the stretch for the Maple Leafs scoring 43 points( 22 G, 21 A) and held his own during the last stretch of the season.
His skills, his grittiness and ability to play in the dirty areas, such as the corners, and boards make him a valuable roster piece for the team.
But of course he is a sought-after free agent by other teams, as it's been reported that the Detroit Red Wings recently checked in on the forward.
If the Maple Leafs can't make Bertuzzi fit into their cap situation, they may have to look for discounted help elsewhere. If the Leafs could lock down Bertuzzi long-term, it could be a beneficial deal for both parties, as Bertuzzi likes being in Toronto and who doesn't love a long-term deal?
But nothing is certain with Bertuzzi and the Leafs, and he could be a key piece in the future Maple Leafs Stanley Cup run, GM Brad Treliving find the right pieces to move forward with.
Toronto's loss could ultimately be Don Sweeney's gain should talks go south.
