Tyler Bertuzzi is a UFA after the regular NHL season ends, and GM Brad Treliving is making an attempt to re-sign the winger.
Even with a salary cap increasing soon, it may not be palatable for the team to sign either Tyler Bertuzzi or even Max Domi.
According to NHL Insider Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic, Brad Treliving remains interesting in re-signing Tyler Bertuzzi. But in in order to make it work, it has to be a fit for both sides, meaning it's about money.
Treliving will have to take care of roster issues, prior to signing Bertuzzi, which could prove to be a huge mistake, should Treliving lose the UFA in the off-season to another offer, from another team, like the Bruins.
There's multiple players who will have to be deal with prior to re-signing Tyler Bertuzzi, and the focus is to make the Leafs a better teams, while continuing negotiating with players to do so.
With that being said, will the Bruins swoop in and pick up Bertuzzi while Treliving is addressing other issues? Bertuzzi was an effective player for the Maple Leafs and teams value his playing style.
Could this be the decision which in-fact is a steal for Don Sweeney, especially if he could sign here on a team-friendly deal?
