Despite not playing regularly, the Blues and Bruins have one of the best rivalries, stemming from multiple Finals meetings, and Boston has a chance to get the latest laugh.

''Putting a Nail in the Coffin''

Heading into Sunday afternoon's game, Boston (59-12-5) and St. Louis (35-35-6) are on opposite sides of their respective conferences, and with a strong performance today, the Bruins can ''unofficially'' end the Blues season.

Earlier this morning, Micah Blake McCurdy of hockeyviz.com pointed out that Boston can single-handedly eliminate the Blues from the postseason with a win:

If St Louis lose at Boston in any fashion, or if the Jets get at least a point from their game vs New Jersey, or if the Flames win their game vs Anaheim in any fashion, then the Blues will be eliminated from playoff contention today.

And as Matt Porter of The Boston Globe shared not long after, don't think it hasn't been discussed by the guys in the Bruins locker room. Especially those who were on that 2018 squad that lost the Stanley Cup Final in seven games.

Surprisingly, the following 13 current Bruins were on that team:

Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand, David Krejci, David Pastrnak, Jake Debrusk, Charlie McAvoy, Connor Clifton, Matthew Grzelcyk, Brandon Carlo, Trent Frederic and Charlie Coyle. Also included on the roster were Jakub Zboril and Chris Wagner.

As per Porter, it could give Boston team that's accomplished pretty much everything you could in the regular season, something to play for today.

''Eliminating the Blues in St. Louis would certainly be a desirable outcome inside the Bruins' room.''
