Bruins' Head Coach Jim Montgomery Has Tough Season Ahead

After an action-packed offseason that brought in some new faces, the Boston Bruins organization and head coach Jim Montgomery face several obstacles in the 2023-24 NHL season.

These developments have completely reshaped everything for the black and gold; Patrice Bergeron's departure opens up a wound that fans may not be equipped for; It may compel the reality that the Bruins to retool. Despite a record-breaking regular season, there are multiple repercussions that management must deal with. Especially going all-in for the Stanley Cup and coming up short again.

Bergeron's leadership on and off the ice was a vital component of Boston's culture. His tremendous play on both sides of the rink, in addition to his ability to contribute to the offence. His departure will be noticed not only in terms of skill but also in terms of locker room presence and direction.

Nobody knows if Jim Montgomery will appoint a new captain this season, but one thing is certain: the club will have the shadow of Bergeron's leadership in the background of every move they take next season and beyond. Despite the Bruins captain no longer being in the locker room, Montgomery stresses that the Bruins are and still will be in "win" mode heading into the upcoming season.

Not to mention, the Bruins also lost David Krejci. Yet another top-six center and leader of the Bruins, Krejci's departure further depletes the Bruins' depth down the middle and creates even more uncertainty in the locker room. With these two veterans no longer etched into the lineup, Montgomery will have to do some rewiring, shake up line combinations and maybe seek more faith in the Bruins' younger players.
