With the Stanley Cup Playoffs in full swing and the NHL Draft fast approaching, trade rumors are beginning to swirl in the hockey world.

Could there be a potential match between the Boston Bruins and Edmonton Oilers?

According to sources, the Oilers may consider moving center Ryan Nugent-Hopkins in exchange for a defenseman. As both teams navigate salary cap constraints and look to strengthen their roster, a trade could be on the horizon. The Bruins' general manager, Don Sweeney, has already hinted at upcoming changes, emphasizing the need for the team's core players to step up in the face of potential departures.

«We're not going to be the same team, but our mandate internally, collectively as a group, is we have a really strong core of guys that hopefully as Jim [Montgomery] was talking about, will continue to grow, will take leadership responsibility moving forward regardless of whether or not Patrice and David walk back through the door because they need to,» Sweeney told the media back on May 9.

However, it remains uncertain if the Bruins would pursue Nugent-Hopkins, given his contract and the team's salary cap situation. Another option mentioned is 23-year-old Oilers center Ryan McLeod, who could provide depth and potential for the Bruins' bottom six.

While these discussions are purely speculative at this point, the Bruins' focus on potential trades reflects their need for cap flexibility and strategic roster adjustments. As the offseason unfolds, it will be interesting to see how the Bruins address their needs and navigate the complexities of the trade market.
