Jim Montgomery Opens Up About Past Personal Struggles in Exclusive Interview

After losing his previous coaching job due to addiction problems, Jim Montgomery has turned his life around and helped lead the Bruins to a historic season.

A ''Perfect Marriage'' in Boston

Boston's bench boss recently sat down for an exclusive interview with Sportsnet's Christine Simpson and opened up about those past personal troubles that could've led to the end of his career.




In 2019, Montgomery was relieved of his duties as head coach of the Dallas Stars after only two seasons for what the team called ''unprofessional conduct''.

Subsequently, Montgomery voluntarily checked into rehab for alcohol abuse, and in his darkest days, a season like he and the Bruins are currently having never seemed possible.


Since then, he's found what he calls the ''perfect marriage'' with the squad he inherited in Boston. But Montgomery credits it all to his marriage with his wife, Emily, because he believes he wouldn't be sober today without her.

Now, Montgomery led the 2022-23 Boston Bruins to the best regular season in NHL history by setting the single-season record for wins (65) and points (135).

It's very likely that a first career Jack Adams Award is in the near future for Montgomery, but if you ask anybody, the organization has its eyes set on the Stanley Cup.
