Marchand Furious With The NHL In Recent Statement
Boston Bruins captain Brad Marchand didn't hold back when addressing the NHL's recent decision to ban rainbow tape in warm-ups, a move that has raised questions about the league's commitment to inclusivity.
When asked about the tape ban, Marchand emphasized his belief in treating everyone with respect. He stated,"My beliefs are that you should treat everyone with respect... Also, I don't think we need to be used to push political agendas as well. If there's something you feel like supporting, then you support it."
Marchand, known for his candid remarks, has been adjusting his approach as the team's new captain. Bruins general manager Don Sweeney had mentioned the need for a more tempered response from Marchand.
Marchand did express his view on why the NHL has restricted players' expressions of support for important causes, such as LGBTQ community support, citing backlash as a potential reason.
"I think a lot of it came from the backlash the players got in previous years, and it's just unfortunate when you stand up for what's right and you get a lot of backlash. Right now, one way or the other, it just seems like you can't win,"
he explained.He further emphasized the need for common ground and mutual respect, saying,
"It's unfortunate that we can't find common ground right now. It's unfortunate that we can't get along on some of these topics."
Another prominent figure within the Boston Bruins, defenseman and alternate captain Charlie McAvoy, appeared to be caught off guard by the news of the tape ban and requested time for further research before commenting on the issue.
