Boston Bruns reportedly set to trade for team's best player
The Boston Bruins are rumored to be in the trade market as they need to make a major change in the top six. They're anemic when it comes to offense, and aren't the same squad that won a President's Trophy in 2022-2023.
The team recently won 6-3 over Patrick Roy's New Islanders, with Joe Sacco behind the bench, proving his system is tried and tested.
While the Bruins did their best to win two points that night, there's one Islanders forward who made it difficult for the team that night.
The Islanders center, Brock Nelson scored 3 points that night(2 G, 1 A).
Maybe that's who the Bruins should target in a re-tool?
With Nelson creating trade chatter and the Bruins needing another top-six forward, he is a player they should have on their radar. His play against the Bruins last night effectively demonstrated this.
Nelson is in the final yearof his deal with the New York Islanders with a $6.0 Million AAV and could be a valuable add if the team can swing it.
Nelson's a reliable forward who has scored 30 goals in the last three seasons. In 2023-24 he scored 75 points, while in 2022-2023 he scored 69 points.
While the Islanders have struggled lately with an 8-10-5 record, he's still managed to score 17 points( 10 G, 7 A) in 23 games.
This isn't the first time Nelson's name has been floated in rumors. Nelson was the the top of Bleacher Report's Trade Board back in September:
"Turning 33 on Oct. 15, Nelson is in the final season of his six-year contract with an average annual value of $6 million and a 16-team no-trade list," B/R's Lyle Richardson wrote. "Eligible for unrestricted free-agent status next July, this could be his final campaign with the Islanders.
"The odds are against Lamoriello shopping Nelson before the start of the season because they'll need him if they hope to reach the playoffs next spring. Nevertheless, he could be someone worth watching in the rumor mill if his team ends up out of the postseason hunt leading up to the 2025 trade deadline."
The Islanders forward could be a suitable replacement for Morgan Geekie on the first line and could give the Bruins enough breathing room to shift him back to the wing.
Fortunately enough, Nelson's play is versatile enough that he could also be utilized on the wing as well.
Nelson's scored 17 points( 10 G, 7 A) in 23 games for the Islanders and could be a major game-changer for the Bruins, and could be a great addition to the power-play.
